Ok – we’ve been live a few weeks. By now you know how Voxometer works. You post a suggestion. You invite your friends and neighbors to vote for your suggestion and to comment on it. Each month we count down to the last day, when the suggestion with the most votes wins. The winner becomes an action item for the VoxSQUAD and we spend the next month writing letters, emails, press releases, blog posts, etc – anything to get attention on the winner and hopefully to get the winning suggestion to the right place where that idea can make a difference. You know how it works. What you don’t know is what’s coming.
On the horizon
Our plan is to never stop improving the site and the interface. We want the site to be a success – we’re constantly honing our idea. And we’ve got some aces up our sleeve.
A. Better communication: Right now, each time someone votes on one of your suggestions or comments on it, you get an email notice. We are in the process of adding the functionality to receive an email each time someone comments on a comment you made on SOMEONE ELSE’s suggestion. Communication is what we’re striving for – we think this is an essential feature.
B. A mobile app: The idea won an early vote and we’ve not forgotten. I myself have had many ideas pop into my head while I’m out, only to have completely spaced it by the time I got back to my computer. A mobile app – love that idea.
C. Polling: If you’ve spent any time on the site, you’ll know that our voting only goes one way – either you vote FOR a suggestion, or you don’t vote. There is no “no” vote. This system definitely works well for our suggestions and our monthly count down. However we see a need to have a second apparatus to run a poll where there are a few options. For example, our weekly VoxPOP question. We added this feature as a fun extra – but we don’t actually want it to be part of the monthly vote. Last month, if you’ll notice, our VoxPOP question of the week actually won the month’s vote. Not our plan. We followed through alright, but we don’t want a repeat. So – we’re looking into adding the functionality to run polls, unconnected to the monthly suggestion competition.
